Vernon, BC – Dr. Eiko Waida has been named the recipient of the prestigious 2025 Distinguished Community Paediatrician Award, an accolade established by the Community Paediatrics Section in 1999 to recognize significant contributions to the field of community paediatrics.
The award honors paediatricians who are primarily community-based and provide exemplary paediatric care in their communities. Recipients are involved in community paediatrics outside their office, often working with special needs groups such as street youth, drug rehabilitation programs, and promoting healthy living within school environments.
Additionally, the award recognizes those who devote time and energy to promoting community paediatrics through involvement in local or national groups, or through collaboration with government agencies to enhance the health and welfare of children and adolescents in community settings.
Recipients are also involved in the academic aspects of community paediatrics, contributing through teaching, research, or involvement with university departments of paediatrics. They are recognized by their colleagues as role models in the field of community paediatrics.
The award will be presented to Dr. Waida at a commemorative dinner held by the Community Paediatrics Section during the CPS Annual Conference in Quebec City. This event will celebrate her achievements and contributions to the field, highlighting her role as a leader and advocate for community paediatrics.
